When we look at figure drawings we can be seduced by lyrical line work or beautifully rendered form, but those are the surface features— the icing on the cake. In this workshop we are going to do the hard work of building a solid underlying structure. We will slow down and work on open line drawings that allow us to build up to a high level of accuracy. We will focus on proportion, internal structure, basic anatomy, and creating the illusion of a 3-dimensional figure. This is a chance to practice again and again the first steps of a longer drawing (which we will do in the next workshops). We will work from 20 minute poses up to a 6 hour pose.
$425 for the three-day workshop (model fee included). Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
During 2019 I will be teaching a year-long figure series that builds from one workshop to the next. We will do figure drawing in the spring and figure painting in the fall. Students are encouraged to take all of the workshops as a progressive course, but each three-day workshop can also be taken independently. In order to get the most out of the course students can work on their own figure projects outside of class and bring those projects in each month for a critique.
