This workshop will focus on one portrait pose from direct observation over the course of three days. We will do small value studies to arrange the composition of light and shadow, and color studies to explore the composition of color masses, discussing how these decisions work to convey mood and character. We will begin with an underpainting the first day and then build into the final painting with opaque paint in 2 subsequent sessions. The workshop will be instructed through lecture, demonstration, individual and group critique.
