This course is designed to support your ongoing studio practice (or help you develop one) by introducing new ways of approaching pictorial space and composition in your painting. Each day we will discuss a chapter of William Dunning’s “Changing Images of Pictorial Space” and then paint still lifes from observation to directly explore different ways of representing space. The classes will be taught in oils and will include demos, individual and group critique. This will be an ongoing course, the first 5 sessions will bring us from the beginnings of Western art to the Renaissance. Subsequent courses will continue our investigations up to the present day.
